Diversity
NOFA/Mass supports organic agriculture in all areas of the state-suburban and urban as well as rural. We promote the personal, political and economic changes needed to make organic farming opportunities and healthy food universally accessible. NOFA/Mass is committed to a socially just food system. For us, this means a food system in which access to healthy, local, sustainably grown food is available to all, access to land for food production is broadly available, and the knowledge to prepare whole, fresh foods is likewise shared by all.
NOFA/Mass invites input, commitment, talent and ideas from the members and non-members alike toward furthering these goals. We invite help in examining how NOFA itself perpetuates systems of privilege, and how to change that.
Here's how NOFA/Mass is working towards a more equitable food system:
- We encourage NOFA/Mass staff to develop ever more inclusive programs, and to be responsive in particular to the needs and interests of marginalized communities. We evaluate these efforts every year as part of staff's yearly reviews.
- We seek partners for NOFA/Mass: organizations involved in farming and food security that are also working to promote an equitable food system. We are mindful to support good food systems work that is already happening.
- We lead workshops and activities at the board and staff levels to encourage multicultural thinking and planning.
Get Involved:
We can use help representing NOFA at a broader diversity of events, augmenting our Outreach staff. Let us know about opportunities-better yet, offer to represent NOFA at one of these events.
Let us know about opportunities to work with and support diverse communities involved in sustainable farming and gardening.
Support our scholarship funds! Providing scholarship opportunities to our conferences for under-served communities is a priority of NOFA/Mass. Consider making a donation to support these efforts. Please contact Bob Minnocci, Director of Development to discuss possibilities. Email: bob@nofamass.org
Translation service: We would love to work on translating some of our materials into other languages. If you would be interested in doing this, let us know.
