Transgenic Crops

NOFA/Mass believes there are several reasons why transgenic crops are bad public policy. There are serious indications that they, and the chemicals involved in their use, have negative effects on human health, livestock health, and the environment. In addition, the spread of transgenic crops threatens organic farmers – contamination of our fields and crops by GMO pollen or accidental dispersion of GMO seed from passing trucks or other equipment can introduce prohibited substances to our farms and destroy our markets. Lastly, we believe patenting seed and other products of nature is wrong and can destroy independent farmers by giving control of crucial farm inputs to monopolies and ending the traditional practice of farmer-saved seed.

To the left are links to various publication which give you further information about GMOs and why we oppose their use. We try to update this list regularly and make sure they are still accurate and relevant.
