NOFA/Mass Extension Events
In 2010, the Practical Skills Workshop Series has changed into NOFA/Mass Extension Events. We'll be running many workshop in 2010 on many of the same skills as were offered in that series. We are running many workshops as part of statewide workshop days in one given topic area. And we're running a seminar and year-long course. 2010 NOFA/Mass Extension Events
Throughout 2010: Nutrient Density Field Course
This six part course is presented by director of the Real Food Campaign, Dan Kittredge. All workshops take place at Lindentree Farm, 10 Old Concord Road, Lincoln, MA 01773. Dates: January 23, March 13, April 24, Sunday, June 27, August 29, October 31, 2010.

January 30, 2010: "Growing Greens and Roots for the Winter Market" - Granby, MA
Learn to extend the growing season. Ryan Voiland, owner and operator of Red Fire Farm, will demonstrate how he is able to produce fresh, local, and organic food during the coldest part of the year. February 2-3, 2010: "Holistic Sustainable Agriculture from the Soil Up" - Barre, MA
Veterinarian and biological agriculture expert, Paul Dettloff, will give the 2nd annual NOFA/Mass Advanced Grower's Winter Seminar. He'll address soil fertility, raising forage nutritional quality, alternative veterinary tools, managing livestock, and growing fruits and vegetables. Registration: $165. April 10, 2010: Second Annual Statewide Organic Gardening Workshop Day
With workshops available in every region of the state (so far: Monterey, Chesterfield, Wendell, Winchendon, Barre, South Natick, Mattapan, Newbury, Dartmouth, and Centerville), anyone wanting to plant a garden has a nearby opportunity to learn new techniques. Registration: $30. NOFA membership discount: $5. Early registration (by March 27, 2010) discount: $5. March to May: Cheese-making Workshop Series
These 5 separate workshops provide hands-on training on making a wide
variety of cheeses on a small scale, using different recipes and
cultures. Led by professional cheese-makers and dairy producers,
workshops will be held at
- * Upinngil Farm in Gill, MA, from 8am-5pm -- on Saturday, March 20; Saturday, April 17; and Saturday, May 15
- * Crystal Brook Farm in Sterling, MA from 1pm-5pm -- on Saturday, May 8.
- * Lawton's Family Farm in Foxboro, MA from 9am-3:30pm -- on Saturday, May 22.
Registration for the workshops ranges from $80 to $50, with discounts
