Modified

In the award-winning documentary film “Modified”, the filmmaker and her mother embark on a very personal and poignant investigative journey into the world of genetically modified foods to find out why GMOs aren’t labeled in the United States and Canada despite being labeled in 64 countries around the world. Anchored around the filmmaker’s relationship to her mom, an organic gardener who battled cancer during the film’s production, and fueled by their shared love of food, the film is a visual celebration of gardening, cooking, and family legacy. An official selection at over 70 international film festivals, the film has received 15 awards including the 2019 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Documentary.

Earth Care Farm

In 1977, Michael Merner had an epiphany while standing in the home garden on his small farm; “Living soil is the foundation of our wellbeing. A nourishing soil produces healthy plants, which leads to healthy animals, people and a sustainable planet.” Mike began making compost soon after that realization. Forty-three years later, Mike and his wife still live and advise on the farm that their daughter, Jayne Merner Senecal, owns and manages (with lots of help from the family and dedicated staff)!   As the first and largest composter in Rhode Island, the farm transforms hundreds of tons of materials per year into rich compost for gardens across New England.

Ghee is clarified butter—a lactose-free, shelf-stable, high-heat cooking oil with origins in ancient India. To make our ghee, we begin with butter that comes from healthy, happy Jersey cows in Western Massachusetts. We slowly simmer the butter, removing the moisture, the milk solids, and the impurities. What remains is a pure premium cooking oil: the clarified essence of butter. Our ghee has a rich, sweet, slightly nutty flavor.
