By Jason Valcourt, NOFA Summer Conference Coordinator

Your summer schedule is filling up fast and our NOFA Summer Conference program is filling out nicely. The second weekend in August will be alive at Hampshire College with fun lively bands, dancing, workshops (of course), youth programming, panels, and meetups.

Even as Hampshire College is going through a tumultuous period, exploring ways to keep their doors open and maintain a sustainable future for the school, their summer schedule is business as usual. We are grateful that they are sticking it out, even while things are rocky, and we have constant communication with them as they manage their way forward. We hope that they find a solution to their woes that gives them long term stability and allows their cutting-edge culture of creativity to continue to thrive.  Read the most recent updates from Hampshire College here.

Aaaaand, thanks to our kind sponsor Badger, we are giving the first 40 Early Bird registrants a 2.9 oz tube of pure unadulterated all natural Mineral Sunscreen to keep your skin protected while at the conference. If you don’t already know their products, you are going to love them!

Registration Scholarships

Through the massive generosity from our grassroots community offering donations of small and large amounts we have the great good fortune to offer 10 full weekend workshop registration scholarships to first time conference goers! If you know of a new farmer that would like to attend the conference for the first time, please share this newsletter article with them!

We are also able to offer partial scholarships for Beginning Farmers (under 10 years farming) that want to come enjoy the weekend. Please apply on our scholarships page now!  Scholarships are for workshop and keynote registration only, housing and meals must be purchased separately.

The Program

This year the conference festivities will begin on Friday evening, beginning with dinner and a NOFA mixer with live music. We will get you setup and settled into your accommodations in time to grab a fantastic dinner and cap the night off with a mixer headlined by the fabulous local band The Gaslight Tinkers! The Tinkers will mix it up with bluegrass, freshgrass and contra style music for you to enjoy however you wish.

You can see the entire workshop program here. A wide range of topics, from seed saving, regenerative farming practices, healthy pigs, and measuring nutrient density fill out the robust program. So much to choose from!

Bring Your Kids, Teens & Tweens!

You may not know it but bringing your kids to the Summer Conference is really affordable. Kids and Teens are $10 for the entire weekend of workshops and activities.  Housing and dining hall meals are inexpensive too!

You can see what your kids (5-12yrs) will be up to for the entire weekend at the Youth Conference here.

Check out this year’s newest addition to the conference- our collaboratively led Teen Summit here. All teens (ages 13-21) are welcome to attend and any inquiries about participation can be directed to Anna@nofamass.org.

Would you like to host a Meetup at the conference?

If you’d be interested in hosting a Meetup gathering at the Summer Conference fair on Saturday afternoon 8/10/19 please email: nofafern@gmail.com to inquire.

Register now!

Food, fermentation, and fun make really good companions and we can’t wait to bring it all together for an amazing weekend with you!
