We all know the feeling of simultaneously being compelled to support an organization that is doing important work but also being unsure of what our donation will actually accomplish.    At NOFA/Mass many donations get designated to projects as soon as they come in, and others go wherever the funds are needed most.  Some of our supporters specify where they want their donation to be used.  This ensures that we are putting your gift toward the projects and initiatives that are most important to you!

If you don’t know where donations to NOFA/Mass end up, here is an example of a workshop last year that we were able to fund because of a generous donation from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.  As we know, organic farmers are generally not trained in formal institutional settings but rather through mentorship, apprenticeship, trial and error, self-education, podcasts, webinars, and local workshops and conferences.  We put the support from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation towards an on-farm workshop at Woven Roots Farm in Tyringham that provided farmer education, built networks of farmers in the Berkshires, and also created a mentorship opportunity for some of the attendees to have continuity by being mentored by Jen Salinetti, one of the farmers.

Eager learners gather at a NOFA/Mass on farm eventSome donors specify that their gifts to NOFA/Mass should only be used for scholarships to help beginning farmers get the education they need, while other donors specify that their gifts should be for technical assistance, publications, or policy work.  We work hard to make sure that your voice is heard if you support NOFA/Mass.  Take a look at our program areas on the NOFA/Mass website, and see what speaks to you.

You, the NOFA/Mass members and donors are the ones who really make this work possible. Thank you for being with us on this project of grower education and advocacy.  You can donate by following this link, or reach me at suzy@nofamass.org to discuss a specific contribution. Right now we are looking to fund the reinstatement of our audio recordings during conference sessions, printing and distributing many of our publications on soil carbon restoration, assisting our policy work to pass the Healthy Soils Bill, and more.  Don’t hesitate to be in touch!
