Children Conference

Kids $10 Winter ConferenceThe NOFA/Mass Children’s conference is an amazing opportunity for your kids to learn while you are learning in the adult workshops. A full day program is in store with expert educators and a robust and fun program of events that includes a full blown theatrical performance with the Piti Theatre Company and an organic lunch.

Children fees are $10 for the day along with an adult registration.

8:45am - 5:30pm with a break for lunch with parents.

Workshops and Schedule for each age group is below.

Songs and Dances

We will move, sing and play some instruments.

 

Perform a Song for Annual Meeting

Who doesn’t get a thrill listening to children sing? We will sing a song for the opening of the Annual Meeting.

Tad Hitchcock: Musician, music teacher, songwriter, parent, gardener and beekeeper.

 

Science Experiments with Plants

We will do some hands-on science experiments to see how seeds germinate, examine parts of a plant with a magnifying glass, and look at how plants move and grow.

Emily Strong:   Runs the Giving Garden in Andover, MA, a 1/2 acre organic garden to feed the hungry.

 

Recycled Jewelry

We'll learn how to make beads out of rolled magazine paper and string them together with squash seeds to make ourselves necklaces.

Rachel Asarnow  Rachel is an artist, teacher and gardener.

 

What’s the Buzz? Bees and Beekeeping

Children's workshop discussing importance of honeybees and other pollinators. We will work with beeswax to roll candles and taste different honeys.

Mel Gadd: Beekeeper for 10 + years. Runs major beekeeping program at Mass Audubon's Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary.

 

Piti Theatre's To Bee or Not to Bee Comes to NOFA!

Piti created this show to raise awareness about the honeybee's plight and gives children and adults tools for helping pollinators thrive in their communities. Children will both watch and act in the show. All conference attendees are invited to watch part or all of the performance from 2:30 – 3:15. Piti Theatre will be available during the session break afterwards to brainstorm about how to bring the performance to your local theatre, library or elementary school.

Mixed Media Collages with Seeds and Natural Materials

In this workshop kids will be able play and create using different materials from nature.

Let's Puzzle It Out Together!

We'll put our thinking caps on and our heads together as we engage in a collaborative combination of game-fest, treasure hunt, puzzle-a-thon, where everybody contributes to figuring out the puzzles, finding the clues, and working together to find the treasure.

12:20-12:30        Parents picking up

2:00-2:20        Story time – reading books

2:20-2:30        Walk to show

2:30-3:15        Show To Bee or Not to Bee – parents invited for show and post show discussion

3:15-4:00        Walk back, have snack, coats on for outside time

4:00-4:20        Outside time

4:20-4:45        Rest time

4:45-5:30        Free play time
