The Year-Round CSA: Using High Tunnels For Seamless Seasonal Transitions

March 18, 2018 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Simple Gifts Farm
1089 North Pleasant St
Amherst, MA
Cost:

NOFA Member - $20

Simple Gifts is one of the few farms in Massachusetts that offers a year-round CSA. They’re able to do so because of the wide variety of season extension structures that they utilize to create seamless transitions between the seasons-- heated and unheated greenhouses, movable high tunnels, and caterpillar tunnels.

Farmer Jeremy Barker Plotkin will be talking about how Simple Gifts uses their mix of different structures to segue from one season to the next in order to provide an uninterrupted supply of fresh veggies all year.

About the Instructor:

Jeremy Barker Plotkin grows about 18 acres of organic vegetables on the 50-acre farm that he runs with farming partner Dave Tepfer.  They operate a year-round CSA and farm store, and also work to train the next generation of organic farmers through an apprentice program.
